Physical Activity

This activity aims to build the fundamental movement skills of coordination (reaching), balance (crouching), and locomotion (crawling, running).

How to Play

Read the action rhyme below and act out each instruction with your toddler. Stop after each line to give you and your toddler time to perform the action:

Reach up high to touch the sky (reach up).

Crouch down low to watch grass grow (crouch down).

Crawl around to feel the ground (crawl and touch).

Run so fast across the grass (run).

Look for planes, but watch for rain! (Lie down on the grass and gaze into the sky)

Change it up / Alternatives / Additional Options
  • For older children, try adding props and encourage their input for actions
  • For children who are deaf or hard of hearing, act out the actions or provide pictures of the intended movements before the action
  • If you have a child with another type of disability not mentioned above, they may be able to participate in this activity without adaptations or modifications
