Equipment
Lots of different colours of colour swatches from a DIY or paint store.
Physical Activity

This activity focuses on developing the fundamental movement skills of locomotion (running, jumping, skipping, hopping, galloping, side shuffling, climbing), coordination (throwing), and balance.

How to Play

Collect many different colours of paint swatches from a paint store or DIY store. While outside, pass them out to children and ask them to match something in nature with the same colour on the colour swatch. Ask them to find one thing as fast as they come and come back for a different colour.

Change it up / Alternatives / Additional Options
  • Add in different movements when the children arrive at the colours, such as one jump for their first colour, then two jumps for their second colour and so on.
  • For children with a visual impairment, provide textured objects such as leaves and grass which they need to match.
  • If you have a child with another type of disability not mentioned above, they may be able to participate in this activity without adaptations or modifications.
